Responsibilities

As the Edo State Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, we are entrusted with a range of responsibilities aimed at promoting the well-being, empowerment, and participation of youth, as well as addressing humanitarian needs within our jurisdiction. Our diverse portfolio of responsibilities includes:

• Developing and implementing programs and initiatives to equip young people with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to succeed in various aspects of life, including education, entrepreneurship, and employment.
• Providing mentorship, counseling, and guidance to youth to support their personal and professional development.
• Facilitating access to vocational training, internships, scholarships, and other opportunities for skill acquisition and capacity building.

• Promoting active engagement and participation of young people in decision-making processes, governance structures, and community development activities.
• Creating platforms and opportunities for youth to voice their opinions, advocate for their rights, and contribute to policy formulation and implementation.
• Supporting youth-led initiatives, organizations, and networks to amplify youth voices and facilitate peer learning and collaboration.

• Identifying and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, including orphans, elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and internally displaced persons.
• Providing social assistance, financial support, and access to essential services such as healthcare, housing, and education to those in need.
• Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement social protection programs and safety nets to prevent and alleviate poverty and social exclusion.

• Coordinating emergency response and relief efforts in times of natural disasters, conflicts, and other humanitarian crises.
• Providing shelter, food, water, medical care, and other essential services to affected populations, including internally displaced persons and refugees.
• Working in partnership with humanitarian organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and effective response to humanitarian emergencies.

• Advocating for the rights and interests of youth and vulnerable populations at local, national, and international levels.
• Raising awareness about key issues affecting youth and vulnerable groups, including poverty, inequality, gender-based violence, and discrimination.
• Promoting a culture of inclusivity, tolerance, and respect for diversity through educational campaigns, outreach activities, and community mobilization efforts.

• Building the capacity of government officials, civil society organizations, community leaders, and other stakeholders to effectively address youth-related challenges and humanitarian needs.
• Providing training, technical assistance, and resources to enhance the skills, knowledge, and capabilities of individuals and institutions working in the youth and humanitarian sectors.
• Fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities to strengthen partnerships and collective action towards common goals.

• Monitoring and evaluating the impact and effectiveness of programs, projects, and interventions implemented by the Ministry.
• Collecting data, conducting research, and performing assessments to inform evidence-based decision-making and improve program outcomes.
• Engaging stakeholders, beneficiaries, and communities in participatory monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure accountability, transparency, and continuous learning.
